Dr. Bruce Bickel has invited Rev. Jeffrey A. Stivason, Ph.D. to be our teacher for a new series on “Devoted to God: Blueprints for Sanctification.”<\/strong><\/em><\/span> \u00a0This study is based upon Sinclair Ferguson’s book of the same title, first published in June 2016. \u00a0The Rev. Ferguson is no stranger to many of us as he is a teaching fellow with Ligonier Ministries. Sinclair Ferguson is a former minister of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina. \u00a0As well as serving on the preaching team in St. Peter’s Free Church of Scotland in Dundee, he continues to serve as Professor of Systematic Theology at Redeemer Seminary in Dallas, Texas. \u00a0His book, “Devoted to God: Blueprints for Sanctification” can be obtained through the Banner of Truth Trust<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sinclair Ferguson<\/p><\/div>\n

In the Introduction Sinclair Ferguson writes, “I set out with a distinctive goal: to provide a manual of biblical teaching on holiness developed on the basis of extended expositions of foundational passages in the New Testament. By the end of the book we will have worked our way together through some of the most important biblical blueprints for building an entire life of holiness. There is a wise adage that ‘it takes the whole Bible to make a whole Christian’. That of course is true. For another way of describing sanctification might be: learning how ‘to glorify God and enjoy him forever’.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Rev. Stivason<\/p><\/div>\n

The\u00a0Rev. Jeffrey A. Stivason, Ph.D, is the pastor of Grace Reformed Presbyterian Church in Gibsonia PA.\u00a0Dr. Stivason is a gifted preacher and teacher and a compassionate shepherd.\u00a0 He\u00a0has been serving the Lord as a minister of the Gospel since 1995.\u00a0\u00a0During that time,\u00a0he has planted two churches, the most recent one being Grace RP Church, which formally constituted in January of 2010.\u00a0 He has published articles and reviews in the Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, The Westminster Theological Journal, The Presbyterion, The Confessional Presbyterian and others. <\/em>Dr. Stivason is also a contributor to the Jonathan Edwards Encyclopedia and author of, From Inscrutability to Concursus<\/em>, published by\u00a0 P&R Publishing.\u00a0 He is also the Managing Editor for the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals program Theology on the Go, which is hosted by Place for Truth (placefortruth.org<\/a>).<\/p>\n

This new series began on Friday, May 26, 2017. \u00a0It would be helpful for us all to obtain a copy of Sinclair Ferguson’s book to follow along with Jeff Stivason’s teaching each week. You can obtain a copy through Banner of Truth<\/a>. We will have limited copies in our Lending Library at the Barn.
